Airport Guide

Gatwick Airport first opened in 1958 with just over 186,000 passengers passing through in our first year of operation. Today, it's a completely different story; the airport is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and now servse around 32 million passengers every year. Gatwick is the busiest single runway airport in the world, the second largest airport in the UK and the eighth largest in Europe. Today, around 90 airlines use Gatwick, and serve 13 domestic and 200 overseas destinations.

Gatwick Airport is located only 1.5 miles outside of Crawley town centre, and about 30 miles south of London. The airport and both towns are well linked with public transport and so it is easy to get to and from Crawley and London.

Terminal Information

Gatwick Airport has two terminals, North and South. The North Terminal is Gatwick's newest terminal, and home to British Airways, as well as charter airlines First Choice Airways and ThomsonFly. Check in is located on the third floor of Gatwick's North Terminal.

You should arrive well in time for your flight to make sure you have enough time to go through security. Self service check in is available both online and in kiosks located at the airport. The North Terminal has kiosks located near the standard check in desks. The North Terminal handles most British Airways flights, Delta Air Lines, some overseas airlines' services plus a limited number of charter flights.

The South Terminal is Gatwick's oldest terminal, home to nearly 50 airlines handling domestic, international and charter flights. Check in desks are located on the right side of the Gatwick's South Terminal.

Passengers arriving at South Terminal but requiring North Terminal can take a free transit train between the 2 terminals. National Express also operates the only direct connection between Heathrow and Gatwick Airports with over 100 services a day.

Gatwick Airport offers many parking options for its travelers. Short Stay Parking is recommended for stays up to five hours and is available from both the North and South Terminals. There is also an additional car park in the central terminal area, car park 1a.
